Cultural house – a place for you

We are a city-funded organisation located in the centre of Vodňany, at the culture house in Zeyerovy sady park. Our culture house was built in 1973 by locals in the Brutalist architecture style as part of the so-called “Initiative Z.” In the hall with a fixed elevation we can welcome up to 350 spectators. The building includes club rooms, a rehearsal room, a classroom, a small apartment, and also a new Magnet Cafe. The centre operates a drama workshop for children NeDiUs, a traditional puppet theatre Pimprlata, and a volunteer theatre group Theatre under Canopy; the collection of models in the foyer is exhibited by the Šumava II Military Model Club. We provide facilities for a centre for underserved communities SPOT, and also for various interest-based associations and clubs in the city. We publish the Newsletter of the Vodňany City and prepare an enriching programme throughout the year not only in our premises, but also in public space. We offer programmes for schools, including creative workshops. We are members of Nová síť; we have founded the platform Quo Vadis, Live Culture; we are also involved in the foundation of the Association of Cultural Centres in the Czech Republic. We are preparing a book about the history of our “kulturák” to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
