Cultural group below the Hostýn hill

The Kulturák association organises cultural and social events year-round, as a quality addition and an alternative to the programme provided by the city of Bystřice pod Hostýnem and the neighbouring municipalities. In summer, Kulturák organises a festival of original bands based in the region, screens films in the meadow in Chvalčov every week, and travels with summer outdoor movies programme in the surrounding area; outside the summer season it presents successful theatre shows for children every month, organises readings, concerts, workshops. Each May it organises the Sušil Happening, a hike to Hostýn in a company of folk musicians to commemorate the folk song collector František Sušil. Kulturák’s activities are rooted in local community – it partners with other local cultural stakeholders (ZUŠ, the city library) and relies to a large extent on local funding (sponsorships by local companies, the Culture for 50 campaign encouraging supporters to contribute 50 CZK a month, and also grants offered by municipalities).
