Open to culture

The multi-genre ‘black box’ hall was created in 2011 by reconstructing the Sokol cinema, which was part of the Jihlava Sokol building. Our dramaturgy focuses on dance and movement theatre projects (mainly new circus), drama, music concerts, film screenings, lectures, and performances for children. We also produce a programme for children in collaboration with lecturers from TJ Sokol Jihlava – the Circus for Schools project, circus workshops, playhouses with film screenings. We host regional iterations of the Malá Inventura and Tanec Praha festivals.

In collaboration with the Jihlava-Helenín School of Applied Arts, we organise an annual Black Box Market, a holiday design market. We also rent our space to other cultural stakeholders from Jihlava, including the group De Facto Mimo and elementary art schools. DIOD also co-organises a number of projects, such as the theatre workshop Divadlo na Staré plovárně and the women’s circus festival Fun Fatale.
